How we Became the Spotted Mule Ranch

I was very fortunate to get to spend lots of quality time with my grandfather as a child and as an adult- learning countless life lessons and sharing a passion for all things dogs, equine, and ranch. Preston McCoy, or as some people will know him as Cotton or Mac, was my “Pa.”  He and I were very close- I will always be a “Pa’s Girl”.  We both had been watching the market for a mule to add to our herd.  Pa and I looked high and low for something that caught our eyes when we came across this little flashy Molly Mule.   She just happened to be our favorite flashy breed, the Appaloosa.  She was cute as a button wearing all her little spots, so young and full of potential. My Pa and I had many discussions over what we would do with such a mule.  Sadly, Pa passed away before either of us could decide if she was the right one to come join our team.  But being a determined and persistent person and granddaughter- I had to have her.  I feel in my heart my Pa would have wanted it that way.  My husband, Mike, purchased Fancy for me as our one-year anniversary present! I traveled to Oklahoma to go get our new Molly and bring her to our newly purchased property. Our new Molly Mule needed a name- we knew right away she would be called Fancy.  As for our new homestead, it was named in tribute to all the memories, to all the lessons, and to all the love shared between a grandparent and a grandchild - Welcome to The Spotted Mule Ranch.

“There are no goodbyes. Wherever he will be, he will always be in my heart.”

In Loving Memory of Preston McCoy
